Teen-aged Resistance fighter Liddy has persevered, going toe-to-toe with Nazi officer Keppler. Living out her faith has helped save the Mittendorf family bakery in Berlin.

But now, as WW II is winding down, the city is under siege by the Russians, and the family’s very survival lies in the balance.

The final invasion brings with it an unthinkable atrocity forced upon Liddy. With mounting misfortunes, she questions not only the viability of an unwanted pregnancy, but also her once strong faith.

Meanwhile, Liddy’s sweetheart and fellow Resistance warrior, Marek, who was snatched away from her by the Nazis, has been longing to reunite. Escaping from a gruesome work camp, he strives mightily to find Liddy, but time and again is re-buffed.

The end of the war brings hardship to all. But out of nowhere, the redeemed Keppler, imprisoned in a POW camp, comes back in a most startling way.

MY THOUGHTS

The Baker's Legacy is a Middle Grade historical story that is written by D.P, Cornelius. My 10 year old son and I read this book together. This is the second book in the series and we have read the first book also. However, you can read them as stand alone books. This was a quick read at 133 pages. My son who reads at a high middle school level had no issues reading.

One of the things that we really enjoyed about this book is how it was written from several point of views. We have the view of the Baker's daughter, a Nazi and a young man with a past. The story is written from a German point of view of WWII. It was fun to read and vision it from this point of view. As a history major, I can always appreciate when authors do research to make their story as real feeling as possible. My son, also is a huge WWII fan fanatic and he said that he felt like he learned a lot reading this story.

Liddy has fought hard to keep her family's bakery out of harms way during the war. She is struggling with her faith with as much as she has seen. I love how even though she is angry and struggling, she still prays to him.

The book is well written, the characters are realistic. The story is historically accurate. Thank you to the author and Just Read Publicity Tours.
