My Thoughts Scars of the Revolution Author: Megan Soja

About the Book

Book: Scars of the Revolution

Author: Megan Soja

Genre: Christian Historical Romance

Release Date: January 6, 2026

Some scars are born from duty, others from rebellion—theirs were carved by both.

Libby Caldwell has been in love with Isaac Harrison for years, ever since her late father befriended him. While her head knows there is no hope of sharing her life with a British soldier, her heart is much more difficult to convince, especially now that he is quartering in her home. With Boston under siege and battle looming, each day together forces her to recognize how deep her feelings truly are…and how forbidden.

Bound by duty to both his family and country, Isaac is determined to serve honorably in the King’s army, despite never wishing to be a soldier. But quartering with the widow and daughter of his old friend places another obligation on his shoulders—that of their well-being. The more time he spends with Miss Caldwell, the more that duty begins to feel like something personal, something he cannot allow.

As the siege of Boston tightens, Libby finds herself drawn into a dangerous game of espionage that could save the Patriot cause—and destroy any chance of a future with the man she’s growing to love.

Will betrayal and war keep their two worlds forever apart? Or will they look to the One whose love knows no bounds to bring them healing and a future?

More from Megan

One of the things I love about reading and writing Christian fiction, is being able to see God’s truth woven into the story. Even though the characters and their experiences are fictional, the truth of who God is and how He loves us is very real.

In Scars of the Revolution, my heroine, Libby Caldwell, wrestles with understanding God’s goodness in the face of loss and hardship. Libby is grieving the death of her beloved father, while also facing the siege of her hometown and the worsening fight between the Patriot colonists and the British Army stationed in Boston. Her growing love for one of the British officers further complicates matters, and makes it hard for her to discern what God is doing in her life.

Her questions and struggles reflect much of my own faith journey. When my husband and I lost our first baby just after birth, I spent months trying to reconcile what I thought I knew of God with the tragic loss we had experienced. I wasn’t angry at God, but I was utterly confused as to how to understand His goodness in the midst of something that felt anything but good.

It wasn’t easy, but when I look back now, I see how God led me through my grief into a deeper understand of His character and a stronger reliance upon Him. I can truthfully say, as Libby’s mother does in Scars of the Revolution, that it was “in the hardest times, when God has seemed utterly incomprehensible, that my faith has grown the most.”

If you have ever walked through a painful experience that made you struggle to understand God’s purpose or even doubt His love, I hope that Libby’s journey will inspire your own faith. Or maybe your experience is more like that of my hero, Isaac Harrison, whose life has revolved around duty for so long, that it is hard for him to comprehend a God who freely gives His love and forgiveness, even when we don’t deserve or cannot earn it. I won’t give any spoilers as to how Isaac’s understanding grows and changes, but I hope you’ll be encouraged when you read it.

Libby and Isaac’s story is one of love against all odds, set against the backdrop of the Battle of Bunker Hill and a complex web of espionage. But it is also a story of faith in the God who is able to turn our scars into something beautiful. I pray you will find that truth in the pages of Scars of the Revolution.

MY THOUGHTS

Scars of the Revolution is written by Megan Soja. This is book 3 in the Harbor of Spies series. I have not read the rest of the series and had no issues following along. One of the things I really appreciated by this author is how authentic the time setting was. The author has done a great job and transporting readers back in time.

In this book, we meet Libby Caldwell. She and her mom have stayed behind in Boston when so many others have fled. She has got strong patriot sympathetic views. However, she has a British lieutenant staying with them who she’s been harboring a crush on for many years. This British lieutenant, is Isaac Harrison. He is a friend of Libby‘s dad and has been staying with them for a while. He tends to keep to himself because he knows they have opposite political views.

Well, they may see different politically. Isaac is nothing but caring and compassionate to Libby and her mother.neighbors of the Caldwell’s start to become suspicious of the camaraderie between Libby, her mother and Isaac.

Both characters confront their past wounds — grief, duty, fear, and faith. Their emotional “scars” become the foundation of their connection. This book is extremely well written, as stated above the author has done a wonderful job and transporting readers back to a time where Boston was occupied with British loyalist. The characters are well developed. The storyline is engaging. I hope to read more from this author.

MY THOUGHTS

Heart’s Promise is a Christian Historical Romance that is written by Linda Hoover. This is book three in the Heart’s Desire series. I have not read the whole series, and had no issue following along. I absolutely love the cover of this book - I felt that it really helped to bring the characters and scenery alive.

This book is set during the Gilded Age, which is rapidly becoming one of my favorite era to read. Annaliese was adopted as an infant by Jacob and Julia. She has had her heart set on becoming a veterinarian. Robbie, a family friend and whom she starts a courtship with - has varying opinions. He feels that her place is not in the workforce.

One of the things that I really loved about this story - is how the characters trust God. While they had varying opinions, they both turned to God to ensure they were on the correct path of life. I enjoyed reading about their faith journey.

The book is well written, the storyline is engaging. The author does a great job in transporting readers back in time with her scenes and descriptions.

Thank you to the author, punisher and JustRead Publicity Tours for allowing me to read a copy of this book - all thoughts are my own.

My Thoughts - Unending Hope Author: Cindy Kay Stewart

About the Book

Book: Unending Hope

Author: Cindy Kay Stewart

Genre: Historical Christian Romance

Release Date: July 29, 2025

As WWII expands across Europe, members of the Circle of Hope are drawn deeper into the struggle to survive in the face of overwhelming adversity.

April 1940. Nazi Germany carries out a devastating invasion, trapping Americans David Jensen and Natalie Thompson in Norway. Determined to use their medical skills to aid the Norwegians, David and Natalie embark on a harrowing journey to treat the injured and evade the Nazis.

Natalie, a dedicated Red Cross worker, values deep relationships. Fearful of settling for a shallow marriage, she broke off her engagement to David several years before. But she never stopped loving him and spending time working together in Norway plays havoc with her heart.

David, a charismatic and confidant doctor with the Red Cross, desires to advance his career and rekindle his relationship with Natalie. Even though she once rejected him, he believes she is the only woman for him. But years of keeping others at arms’ length guarantees that winning Natalie back will be the biggest challenge he’s ever faced.

The saga introduced in Abounding Hope continues in this inspiring second installment of courage and devotion.

Readers of Kristin Hannah’s The Nightingale and Lee Jackson’s After Dunkirk series will love this book.

More from Cindy

Those who love learning about bygone eras through fiction, will enjoy escaping to WWII Norway and France in Unending Hope, Book 2 in the Circle of Hope series. This novel follows the adventures of former boarding school classmates who vowed to come to each other’s aid in times of crisis, and WWII provides plenty of trouble for these diehard twenty-somethings to work through. Abounding Hope, Book 1 in the series, is a friends-to-lovers romance, and Unending Hope is a second-chance romance. The novels are sequential to the timeline of WWII.

As well as struggling to safely navigate their responsibilities, the major characters in both novels seek answers to their needs and problems, which can only be found by embarking on a spiritual journey that’s just as climactic as their physical adventures.

I love to research and dig up true stories I’ve never heard about or seen before and then share the most interesting ones through the lives of my characters. Bringing history to life is an adventure for me, and keeping my stories historically accurate is a goal I always strive to meet.

My Thoughts

Unending Hope is a gripping Christian Historical Fiction story that is written by

Cindy Kay Stewart.  This is book two in the Circle of Hope series. If you’ve not read the first book that’s ok. This book can be read as a stand alone.

The author transports us back to April 1940, during the early phases of World War II, specifically during the German invasion of Norway.  This leaves Natalie and David trapped.  Determined to use their medical skills, Natalie is a Red Cross Worker and David a doctor.  Being present after the invasion exposes the two of them to the truth about the Nazi invasion. I really felt the author did a great job in showing this piece of history through the characters eyes.  The invasion of Norway is not something that is overly written about so I was nice to see the war from a different lens.

The author has crafted a. blend of historical adventure, romance, and faith-based inspiration. The novel emphasizes Christian faith, the power of hope in dire circumstances, and the assurance that God works even in wartime.  The characters are well developed. The story is historically accurate.

Thank you to the author, publisher and Celebrate Lit for allowing me to read a copy of this book — all thoughts are my own.
