ABOUT THE BOOK
Title: The Storm Breaks Forth
Author: Terri Wangard
Release Date: April 6, 2021
Genre: Christian Historical Fiction
World War I rages in Europe, and now the United States joins in. Peter Bloch heads to France with the Wisconsin National Guard, but his wife Maren is the one under attack. She’s German-born, and anti-German hysteria is running high. Simple suggestions for coping with wartime measures lead Maren into an active role in the community, but her service doesn’t help deflect suspicion from her. Zealous patriots target her with a vengeance. Peter caught the eye of a major who seems intent on using him as a spy. He’s been fortunate to avoid injury so far, but these activities are likely to get him killed. Peter and Maren dream of the day they will be reunited, but more and more, that day appears to be a mirage.

The Storm Breaks Forth By Terri Wangard is a Christian Historical Fiction book. I have read several books by this author - and have always loved every single one. This book is set in 1917. I love how much research that the author has done to make this story as real feeling as possible. This is the story of Maren and Peter. They were introduced in a previous book that I have not read, but did not have any issues following along. The German Americans had a lot of effects of the war to deal with - while it be overseas or at home. Those who descended from Germany were looked at differently. Men were expected to train and go off and fight. Women were left behind to manage the household. Women who were German Americans were treated differently. They were bullied and made to feel less then human. To complicate matters - not only is America at war - but there is also the flu pandemic raging around them. The way this author writes, you can feel the emotions coming off the pages. Well written characters, historically accurate storyline, and such an emotional story.
